Bővebb ismertető
The great leader President Kim II Sung said: "You should preserve the beautiful natural scenery of Mt. Myohyang as it is now." Mt. Myohyang is a celebrated mountain of best beauty in our country. Magnificent and mysterious-looking peaks, steep cliffs, crystal-clear water, roaring falls, thickets of trees fiiled with the fragrance of flowers and notes of various birds-all these combine to show a rarely serene, masculine beauty, carrying the viewer into an ecstasy. It soars on the bordér of North Pyongan and Chagang Provinces in the northern region. Mt. Myohyang, whose geological component is gránité gneiss, had gone through harsh weathering for a long time and in the process came to have multifarious shapes of natural beauty. It covers 375 square km, 128 km in circumference-28 km north-south and east-west respectively. The Piro Peak 1,909 m above sea level dominates the mountain and many peaks soaring over 1,500 m high side by side and steep ranges stretch out in a vast area. Beautiful valleys named Sangwon, Munsu, Manpok, Chondae and Chilsong are stuck in between lofty mountains and sheer cliffs. Waterfalls in deep valleys are hanging like the rolls of colourful silks. Mt. Myohyang is noted for its numerous falls. Its average annual temperature is 8°C and the difference of temperature is wide between the lower and upper parts of the mountain. There occur over 400 kinds of herbaceous plants and over 200 kinds of ligneous plants covering the mountain in different colours in every season. Various kinds of birds sing in bushesand fish abounds in the clear Hyangsan Stream. There are over 20 temples including the Pohyon Temple and sites of temple, pagodas and monuments. The Pohyon Temple which had been built nearly 1,000 years ago shows the ingenuity and talents of our forefathers, adding charm to the scenery. For long years there had been preserved many cultural relics and temples demonstrating the beauty of our splendid architecture, but many of them were burnt down by the US imperialist aggressors' barbarous bombing during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953). After the war the Taeung Hall of the Pohyon Temple and other relics were restored to an originál shape. In the Changgyong Hall of this temple are kept 1,159 volumes of the "Eighty Thousand Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scripture" made in the 13th century. Somé distance away from there are branch temples-Sangwon, Pulyong, Hwajang, Kyejo, Paekhwa Temples, etc. In this celebrated mountain, a scenic spot for recreation of the people, there have been built the magnificent International Friendship Exhibition, modern buildings of the rest home and the camp and the Hall of Culture. New paths for mountaineering run up the mountain. Mt. Myohyang is visited ceaselessly by working people, schoolchildren and foreigners.
