Steroid Analysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry [antikvár]

Preface The original idea to write an article entitled 'Steroid analysis in the pharmaceutical industry' came from the editors of the journal 'Trends in Analytical Chemistry'. This paper appeared in 1984 in the third volume on pages 157-161. Not long after the publication of this paper I got a letter from Mr Ellis Harwood containing his idea to publish a book under the same title. I found this to be an excellent idea. On the one hand - having more than 25 years experience in industrial steroid analysis—I could realize how great the differences are between the approaches to this subject by industrial and biological-clinical steroid analysts. The overwhelming majority of the publications and books in this field come from the latter field and for various reasons the immense amount of information accumulated in industrial analytical laboratories has only been partly if at all published. For this reason I hope that a book dealing purely with this subject can fill a wide gap. On the other hand, being editor of this volume enabled me to cooperate with outstanding experts of industrial steroid analysis—most of them old friends—and I enjoyed this work enormously. Being a citizen of a small country and an employee of a medium-sized pharmaceutical company I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to bring together the group of contributors from countries such as Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the USA, representing the leading steroid manufacturers such as Ciba-Geigy, Duphar, Mitsubishi, Organon, Squibb, Syntex and Upjohn, and of course also my colleagues at the Chemical Works of Gedeon Richter Ltd, Budapest. Although the primary aim of the publication of this book has been to give a picture of the state of the art in industrial steroid analysis it is hoped that, as well to analysts working in the steroid industry, the book will be a useful source of information to non-analytical steroid chemists and biochemists and also to steroid analysts working in control laboratories and in the biological-clinical field.
