PREFACEHungary is well-known for her rich thermal water resources.It is an important national task to turn this asset for the use ofrecreation and tourism. Significant efforts have been made so far toenhance this development, and it is our intention to continue thistrend in the future too.In the Hungarian territory there were well known baths asearly as during the periods of Roman empire and the Turkish occu-pation.The purpose of this publication is neither touristic propaganda,nor the advertisement of one spa or another.This book, describing the characteristics of thermal watersin Hungary, their use for recreation and tourism, our plans for thefuture and the actual development planning process has been writ-ten for professionals working in public administration, touristagencies and social organizations concerned in one way or anotherwith the uses of thermal waters (architects, physicians, economists,engineers, landscape architects, caterers, geologists etc.).
