James Plunkett Strumpet City
James Plunkett, born in 1920, is an Irishman from the neigh-, bourhood of Dublin. He studied music and has been a freelance music and theatre critic, has written book reviews, radio and television plays, the reportage " The Gems She Wore 1972, and short stories. One of them, " The Half-Crown ", was included in a collection of Irish short stories, published in Leipzig in 1966. Until 1971 he was on the staff of the Irish Republican radio and television company R.T.E. For ten years a union official he became intimately acquainted with the Irish working class and its history.

Plunkett makes it clear that only the working class has a !(:
legitimate claim to lead the nation towards national liberation jj
and social progress. [V
