The backgrounds of the inter-subjective world/reality of life, their everyday variety, the scientific reception of the mass communication are related to the beginning of the Chicago School of sociology. Dewey, Park and Thomas recognized this fact. They drew attention to the significant role of mass press, namely that it forms the public opinion. For Dewey, communication stands for Hegel's Absolute Idea. Yet, what is in the centre of attention is not completely the same as what is happening nowadays; they only anticipated the potential consequences. It is not a coincidence that their orientation of methodology focuses on the personally experienced anomic states of society which could be caught best in life stories. The Chicago School of sociology listed all the non-verbal, personal topics under the terminology of 'Biographical Method'. Only two of the potential alternatives have proved to be convincing for them: the texts of the press products and personal life stories. They foresaw the forming role of the press, and it proved that the interest of the press turnéd to forming opinions, and within the biographical method the interest towards researching life stories was gradually getting into the background. The recovery of the biographical method in the 1960s and 1970s and the enthusiasm towards it was followed by decrease. Today calmer conditions make experiments possible and maybe it does not seem an iconoclasm if life story and autobiography are exposed from the broad concept of "biographical method,>, and these two things are going to be called narrative story form. The suggested term cannot be regarded as a new term since it comes from the context and form of the object itself. A narrower reference of the object is merely validated since discussions, narrations of everyday discussions, reports about events, diaries, memoirs, biographies, chronicles, reports, interviews and other language utterances can be listed to narratives. The narrow subject of this paper is trying to examine these two life manifestations in details and to make a common analysis írame. It can cause problems - like in case of other topics as well - that life story, especially autobiography does not constitute the exclusive field of sociology, it has to share the views of the approaches of other social and humane sciences. In case of narrative story forms, it is crucial to use the results of the related fields because of overlaps. 9
