ANDREW LADIS, in his catalogue-?jL raisonnc of the work of TaddeoGaddi published in 1982, accepts onlytwenty-seven individual paintings orensembles (fresco cycles or altarpieces)as the work largely of the artist himself.Of these, apart from two altarpiecepinnacles, the Bromley Davenportaltarpiece is the only one remaining in aprivate collection. The inaccessibility ofthe picture accounts for its omissionfrom the literature on Giotto s mostimportant and fertile pupil until 1965,when it made its first and only publicappearance in this century, in anexhibition in London. On that occasionthe attribution to Gaddi was proposedindependently in reviews by ProfessorFederico Zeri and Professor RobertoLonghi and the altarpiece wassubsequently published as the work ofGaddi by, among others, ProfessorsFerdinando Bologna, Mina Gregori andMiklos Boskovits.
