MEET HADDON W. ROBINSON
Ivory towers can be a long way from city streets. But not for Haddon W. Robinson, the newest contributor to Our Daily Bread. Considered the "most outstanding professor in his field" by his colleagues, Dr. Robinson is down to earth in his preaching, writing, and background.
Haddon grew up in a part of New York City described by Reader's Digest as "the toughest section in the United States." His mother died when he was young, and his father worked a late shift, so he was a "latchkey" kid. But his father's godly influence and that of a Sunday school teacher helped to keep Haddon from the violence and early death experienced by many of his peers. Although he doesn't recall just when he was converted to Christ, he does remember praying, "God, be merciful to me a sinner." Nothing dramatic happened, but members of his gang soon saw the difference Christ made in his life.
About this time, the powerful preaching of H. A. Ironside inspired Haddon to become a preacher. Following undergraduate school, he went on to Dallas Theological Seminary, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Illinois, where he earned his Ph.D. in communications.
Haddon served as president of Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary from 1979 to 1991. Currently he teaches homiletics at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. He is also the discussion leader for the Radio Bible Class Daily program. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two grown children.
The articles from HWR, with their fresh, down-to-earth style, will challenge and speak to your heart, not from an ivory tower but from life as it is today. —The Editors
