A SZABADSÁG KÉTFÉLE - TEOLÓGIAI ÉS POLITIKAI - ÉRTELME A szabadság szónak látszólag eltérő a jelentése a politikában, és más a teológiában. The call of Pope St John XXlll for "a poor church serving the poor" found a positive echo among die council fathers - the "Catacomb Pact" being a concrete sign of this new commitment. "The preferential option for the poor" was welcomed first of all in the churches of Latin-America. Bishops, priests and lay Catholics turned against the violent dictatorships of the continent and the exploitation of the poor. The article analyses the movement in three levels: single heroes or martyrs who took an active role in the political struggles; the work of CELAM with its conferences in Medellin, Puebla, Santo Domingo and Aparecida; and finally the main stream of the liberadon theologies. The third part of the article draws a balance of the LT, summing up its main characteristics and also its criticism on the part of the Congregation of Faith.
