Following the walks An information panel for each walk shows its relative difficulty, the distance and total amount of ascent. An indication of the gradients you will encounter is shown by the rating aaa (no steep slopes) to ^^^ (several very steep slopes). Each walk is rated for its relative difficulty compared to the other walks in this book. Walks marked +++ and colour-coded green are likely to be shorter and easier with little total ascent. Those marked with +++ and colour-coded orange are of intermediate difficulty. The hardest walks are marked +++ and colour-coded red. MAPS Each walk in this book has a map, and we also suggest which AA Walker's or Ordnance Survey map you should take with you. The minimum time suggested is for reasonably fit walkers and doesn't allow for stops.
