The others are Buckingham Palace in London and Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.The Queen enters into official residence at her palace in the Upper Ward at Easter, Christmas and Ascot Week, when the Court moves from Buckingham Palace. Windsor is also a favourite home for private weekends.Always when The Queen is residing in her Royal Palace and Castle the Royal Standard flies from the Round Tower, central feature of the Castle, which stands 215 feet above the Thames. At all other times the Union Flag, or Union Jack as it is familiarly known, is hoisted and, like the Royal Standard, flies night and day.
