President's Address1992 was a year of consolidation and strenghtening of the stability of the Academy. Being recognized by European authorities, our Academy has developed a strong executive body expressing the Academy's objectives especially in a time of dramatic changes all over Europe.The notion of Europe as a new identity has to be redefined in order to clearly understand what has been influencing economy, politics, ecology as well as the intellectual world.In March 1992, the second Festplenum and the General Assembly were held in Salzburg. The governing body was confirmed and the proposals for the Senate's election in 1994 were passed. During the Festplenum Mrs Maria Schaumayer and Mr Georg Leber were welcomed as new "honorary citizens" of our Academy. The festive lecture on synergetics was given by our member Hermann Haken.During 1992 visits were paid to the Hungarian, the Latvian, the Austrian and the Danish Academy of Science to strenghten the contacts and to establish close cooperation.In March 1992 our Academy attended the 2nd All-European-Academy-Meeting in Stockholm. Furthermore the contacts to the European Council regarding the PACT programme were reinforced.Among the various meetings held in 1992 the peace talks between the Academies of Sciences and Arts of Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Vojvodina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina were of special importance. Held in February and October, they will be continued on the recommendation of our honorary senator, Dr Alois Mock. The conference, scheduled on 26 and 27 February 1993 will be entitled, "Cooperation concept for Central, South and Eastern Europe - prospects for durable peace and collaboration".On Whitsunday 1992 a symposium entitled, Human Development for the 21st Century was arranged. Mr Robert S. McNamara gave an impressive lecture emphasizing the importance of clear strategies in providing financial aid to the emerging East of Europe. On the same occasion Mr McNamara was awarded the title "honorary citizen" of the Academy.In November 1992 more than 120 members joined the All Class Meeting in Munich at the venues Technical University, Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the Academy of Fine Arts, Members of all eight classes gathered to outline their objectives for their individual classes.In December 1992 the Academy started the discussion series Holocaust Talks between Christianity and judaism. The fruitful meeting which was chaired by Dean Eugen Biser will be continued in March 1993.
