On Hermannsburg mission, NT, a 'school' of Aboriginal painting has developed in the style of Albert Namatjira.hermannsburg mission stationHermannsburg Mission Station is a Lutheran mission in central Australia on the banks of the Finke River, about 100km. S of alice springs. The mission was established in 1877 to help wandering Aboriginal tribes of the desert, and it works mainly with the aranda people. Albert Namatjira was born there, and the great hnguist and anthropologist, TGH Strehlow, the son of a missionary, grew up there.Hcrinamisburg, which pioneered work in the native tongue, has a school where children learn to read and write in their own language and in Enghsh. An art school was estabhshed following the success of Albert Namatjira, and the mission also teaches crafts and trades. Livestock are raised, and vege-tables grown.The mission station, the first in the Northern Territory, was found by two pastors, Schwartz and Kempe, and struggled for survival against drought and disease. Radio communication was installed at the mission in 1926 by the Rev. John Flynn.hero of waterlooThe Hero of Waterloo, a well-known hotel in The ROCKS area of Sydney, was probably built as an army barracks in 1804. Records show it had a licence as early as 1838 but is likely to have traded in alcohol before 1820 when it was called The Little Princess.Cells in the basement of the hotel were originally used to house convicts engaged on local building projects.
