PrefaceThis volume replaces and supersedes the Directory of archives, libraries and schools of librarianship in Africa, published in 1965 and which had been prepared by E. W. Dadzie and J. T. Strickland. It brings up to date the information concerning the documentation, library and archives services of the countries of the African continent, whose political, economical and cultural structures have undergone profound changes since 1965.Designed for use in libraries, documentation centres and information and archives services, this Directory is intended to be a guide to African documentary sources and thereby to contribute to the improvement of international exchanges of information. It includes data on 40 countries. The designations employed and the presentation of the material relating to the various countries or territories concerned do not imply the expression of any opinion on the part of the Unesco Secretariat concerning their legal status, their form of government, or the delimitations of their frontiers.
