The Egyptians invented agriculture, architecture, the art of government, andprobably monotheism as well For 3,000years the world drew its inspiration from the sources of theNile. This valley was the mother of the arts, of weapons andof laws. From all over the place people who were interestedor merely curious, from negro magicians to Greek journalists, from executives to artists, came to the magic valley to learnthe lessons of priests and builders, to be initiated into therites of Isis and Osiris, to learn methods of irrigation, con-struction techniques, and the fundamental principles ofreason. All civilizations under the sun emerged from thematrix. Along the steep dark banks thrown up across theNorth African desert by a river half Ethiopian and halfUgandan a unique-race was born. The features of the peoplewere large but not negroid, their skin was copper-coloured,they were thick-set and a little slow. The Egyptian race isnot reducible to any other, and seems to have been createdout of the union between the ancient Nile and the desert. Before any other race it wrote and obeyed, prayed and built. If humanity had known a former life, it would have beenthat of the Egyptians.
