FHE LAND AND THE PEOPLE Finland (Suomi) is, after Iceland, the most northerly country in the world. About one third of its total length lies north of the Arctic Circle. Coastline: 1,100 km. Frontier: with Sweden 586 km, with Norway 716 km, with the USSR 1,269 km; total 2,571 km. Population: 4,788,000. Density of population: 15.6 per sq. km. Topography The soil is mainly moraine deposits left by ice age glaciers. It is usually so thin that the topography follows 7
