The World Federation of Hungarians (WFH) is an organization independent of parties and governments. It was founded in 1938 with its headquarters in Budapest. Its approximately one millión members and numerous affiliated organizations work and function in fifty countries all over the world. The WFH's basic goal is to preserve and reinforce national identity, and to improve Hungarian-Hungarian relations as well as the relationship of Hungarians and other peoples living together. The WFH has undertaken the task of safeguarding Hungarians and supporting Hungárián culture. It pays special attention to the plight of the approximately five millión - either indigenous or living in scattered groups and emigration - Hungarians outside the borders of Hungary. The WFH performs its activites mostly through member and affiliated organizations in the Carpathian Basin where the Hungarians Iive in unbroken unity, and all over the world in the scattered Hungárián communities. The WFH aims at co-operation with (Albánián, Armenian, Irish, Polish, Ukrainian, Jewish) organizations which have similar goals. It maintains relations with Hungárián civic organizations operating in Hungary or outside the country's bordere. The Federation takes part in the work of a number of international organizations, e.g. the Council of Europe, CSCE. After similar events in 1929,1938 and 1992, the WFH will organize the 4th World Conference and Scientific Meeting of Hungarians. The 4th World Conference and Scientific Meeting of Hungarians is organized jointly by the WFH and the Federation of Technical and Scientific Societies (FTSS), which includes forty-one professional societies. These co-ordinate somé 100,000 experts and specialists in Hungárián technical, scientific and economic life. The FTSS aims at promoting Hungary's economic and cultural improvement through the utilization of the country's scientific and technical achievements. Co-operating with numerous scientific organizations, the Federation pays special attention to informing the persons affected as well as representing professional interests. Through its nationwide Science and Technology" system, the FTSS provides high-level, up-to-date national and international professional information for its members by means of an integrated network of intelligence. The FTSS takes part actively in the work of more than one hundred scientific and professional organizations.
