published for the college by jarrold and sons ltd, norwichKing's College or, to give its full title, the King's College of Our Lady and St Nicholas in Cambridge, was founded by King Henry VI in 1441. The College, to consist of a Rector and twelve scholars, was begun to the north of the present Chapel. By 1445 the King was planning a larger college to consist of a Provost and seventy scholars, and bought nearly the whole of the site of the present College^ clearing away streets and houses, moving Godshouse, now Christ's College, to its present site and the church of St John Zachary together with its parish. As he had laid the foundation stone of the earlier buildings so he laid the foundation stone of the Chapel, the first of the new buildings, on the feast of St James (25 July) 1446.
