Go first, by bus or taxi, across Westminster Bridge to the South Bank of the River Thames and walk for a while along the Albert Embankment. From here you will have the finest view of the Houses of Parliament, or more correctly, the Palace of Westminster. The old Palace was the home of the king for several hundred years until, in 1529, King Henry VIII took Whitehall Palace, and moved to live there. Ever since then the Palace of Westminster has housed Parliament. In 1834 it was mostly destroyed by fire and only Westminster Hall survived. The present building was designed by Sir Charles Barry, who alsó designed Tower Bridge. Its stately, perpendicular, Gothic style harmonises with Henry VII's Chapel in Westminster Abbey, opposite, and it is said to have as many windows
