It is not often that you walk down a street and are stopped in your footsteps by a photograph, but that is what happened to me when I saw one of David Wilson's photographs in a gallery window. The work seemed to reach out and touch me in the way that hearing music can transport you to another place. The stark black and white study of the Preseli mountains reeled me in to look a little closer It takes a particular talent to capture the landscape; this study of those familiar hills sent a bolt down my spine, transporting me back to my childhood and picnics in North Pembrokeshire. But there is more to David's work than a romantic snap of beautiful countryside. In this one image he rolled back thirty years and made me shiver in the memory of summer days that were never warm enough to take off your jumper and remember too that for every sunny field the shadows were walking over neighbouring paddocks. This is landscape photography at its most powerful - he has the ability to delight and unnerve simultaneously.
