The present book is also an open invitation to visit Romania andunderstand that this is not just another tourist destination but rather a specific and well-defined "topos" reflecting the image of the Europe as a whole.Our journey into Romania begins with Bucharest, the country's Capital City. After a short getaway in the counties located in the northern and southernregions of the Romanian Plain we cross the Danube into the ancient province of Dobrudja situated between the Danube and Pontus Euxinus (the BlackSea).Back to Bucharest we head westwards across the counties in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians and also visit some of the counties in Oltenia region.Crossing the Carpathians we set off for our Transylvanian itinerary. First we get acquainted with the nature beauties and cultural landscapes of Transylvania'ssouthern counties - Bra§ov, Sibiu, Hunedoara and Alba. Next, we head west towards Banat, and then take the way north towards Oradea and the bordercounty of Satu Mare, one or Romania's northernmost counties. From here on, our Itinerary continues eastwards into the very heart of Transylvania. Againwe turn north and cross the Bistritsa County to reach the northern realms of Maramures County. Having completed our visiting tour of Maramure§ we takethe way east, along the road that crosses the Eastern Carpathians into Moldavia. From northern Moldavia, meaning the fascination region of the "sweetBucovina", we slowly descend south to conclude our journey in the ancient region of Vrancea.
