RUSSIA: A NEW CHAPTERRUSSIAThe London Book Fair, with its longstanding strategic partner the British Council, and this year in partnership with the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communication of the Russian Federation and their official partner, Academia Rossica, is delighted to welcome the Russia Market Focus into the spotlight for 2011.Russia is internationally renowned for its rich literary heritage; writers such as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Chekhov still enthral lovers of literature worldwide. As we mark the 50th Anniversary of Gagarin's space flight on the Tuesday of the Fair, we are again reminded of the impact of Russia on our own history and culture, and how these ties remain strong today, continuing to excite and move. The Russia Market Focus 2011 brings to an international stage the best in contemporary Russian literature, showcasing many of the different voices from the country today. Established authors mix with their younger peers adding a new chapter of Russian writing and publishing to a great tradition. The many writers listed in these pages will be appearing in a series of trade events at The London Book Fair, as well as public events around London, and the rest of the UK, providing maximum exposure for meeting and debate. Furthermore it offers the ideal platform for rights and export sales amongst the international publishing community. The professional programme offers educational opportunities for publishers interested in learning about different aspects of the Russian publishing industry, as well as details of participating Russian publishers. The Market Focus programme brings opportunities to Russia and the rest of the world at the point where business and cultural relations intersect.
