Have you ever stopped to think just how important birds are to us ? We all know something about birds, whether we live in the city or in the country, but most of us never really stop to think about them. Sitting here now, writing this, there have been seven different birds outside the window — Great Tits, Blue Tits, Song Thrushes, Jackdaws, House Sparrows, Tree Sparrows and a Wren. Many of you would see as many different kinds, if you looked carefully. You're probably asking right now, just how birds are important, what they really have to do with us. They're pretty, yes, many of them and their voices may be beautiful; they can be interesting and fun to watch — but why are they important? The answer lies in the fact that experts have judged that if all our birds suddenly left or died, man himself would cease to exist within a year. 7
