The Dean's Message
It is good to welcome all visitors to St.Paul's and I hope that this Guide will provide a happy reminder of your visit.
A Cathedral has stood on this site since the early years of the seventh century. Christopher Wren's masterpiece has been described as the most powerful architectural statement ever made in the City of London. But the ministry of St Paul's,
while it is deeply routed in the life of the City and of the Diocese of London, extends throughout the world. It is a living, working symbol of Christian faith and witness.
Our English cathedrals stand at the forefront of the Church's mission. They work on the boundary of church and community life. They are in touch day by day with the large numbers of people who often have only an occasional relationship with the Church.
They are one aspect - and a tremendously important aspect - of the public face of the Church of England. Their work is primarily evangelism.
But the primary purpose of St Paul's is the worship of God, and the daily offering of prayer lies at the heart of all that we do. Find time during your visit to stop and be still. Allow the majesty of the building to speak of the majesty of God. It is always good to welcome those who come from all parts of the world. Thank you for your prayers and your generous support which enable us to take forward the mission of this Cathedral church.
John Moses, Dean of St. Paul's
