This book is about one of Europe's major navigations—Sweden's charming Blue Ribbon which crosses the country from its main port, Gothenburg, on the west to its capital, Stockholm, on the east. But, as its title indicates, the guide is intended to be more than a description of the Gota Canal route itself. It is a guide to Sweden-as-seen-from-the-waterway so that voyagers along it, whether travelling in their own craft or in one of the passenger steamers, may understand from the part something of the whole.
