THE Gdvent Garden Album There is a special atmosphere to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, an impulse of excitement which has been felt by all who have come to know and understand the theatre. In this, the family album of Covent Garden's first 250 years, the authors have sought to convey, in originál photographs and illustrations, the ambiance as well as the history of the world's greatest theatre. Perhaps no other theatre can boast such a resplendent history. In an unbroken line, from its formation two and a half centuries ago, the greatest figures of the theatre, opera and ballet have appeared upon its stage. It is a unique institution and it is the purpose of this book to celebrate its great achievement. Within its pages may be found many of the greatest performances and the finest artists in the history of the performing arts - all members of the extended Covent Garden family.
