The contributions of these individuals are acknowledged by these excerpts from interviews with them.
"Expo is unique because it combines a number of elements; the technologies of the two areas - transportation and communications - and it also involves the arts and entertainment to a greater degree. That puts the element of fun on the site so that while people are waiting for pavilions, the outside is as much fun as the inside.
"Expo has created a legacy that the people of B.C. feel and 1 feel when 1 go on that site. That is, people feel good about themselves, about being British Columbians.
"The Exposition has been educational for British Columbians as to where our future prosperities lie and the internarionai aspects of how that relates to B.C.
"1 think they got a sense of a pretty good future." WILLIAM BENNETT, Premier-Province of B.C. (Retired-im), Kelowna, B.C.
"It was our intention to present Canada in a magnificent showcase, to reflect the vibrance and the spirit of Canada, particularly the importance of transportation and communication in the evolution of this country. Particularly the leadership that Canada has demonstrated to the world in terms of its achievements.
"I think, in terms of Vancouver being the gateway to the Pacific Rim, that EXPO 86 will go down as a very important event in opening new doors, new opportunities for Canada
"1 can only be reminded of a comment made by an American journalist who visited Expo during the first week and said, 'This is going to be a great show. It's in the right place at the right time and it has the right theme.' I couldn't agree more." DONALD MAZANKOWSKI, Deputy Prime Minister/Federal Minister Responsible for EXPO 86. Ottawa, Ontario.
