HENRY VIII's GATEABOVE : The King Henry Vili Gate is sited at the lowest extremity and farthest from the Royal Apartments. It was built here so that, should it fall to the attackers, any further progress would require a stern uphill fight. The gateway was rebuilt by Henry Vili in about 15io.EDWARD III 's TOWERBELOW: King Edward IIFs Tower or Devil's Tower, very ancient, but much altered. It was Edward III who founded the Order of the Garter. The twin towers seen on the right, flank George IV's Gateway, built when the Long Walk was continued right up to the Castle.
