Bővebb ismertető
Shalom,
Every minute of writing this book was a gift to me. I experienced a true adventure in this enchanted city called Budapest, with as many faces as the leaves on a tree. The two leaders of the Hungarian Jewish Cultural Association, President Péter Kirschner and Executive Director Annamária Samu Takáts, asked me to sketch the Jewish face of Budapest out of this rich diversity. So I thank them first and foremost for their trust in me, and I hope that this will continue to be the case after the publication of this book.
I dare say that from the first letter to the last, Vivien Mikes has been my companion, my critic and my guardian angel, both as a reading editor and as the designer of the book. Thanks to her and to Ádám Korpusz, the graphic designer who made the cover, this book is as beautiful, colourful and adventurous as I dreamed it would be. Júlia Turai and Orsolya Vener did a great job in finding archive photos and taking new ones, respectively. András Török has corrected my mistakes and typos by very strict proofreading, and I must thank him especially for providing me with some fascinating stories and quotes that have found their way into the book. Likewise, thanks to Anna Czékmány who discovered and corrected the inaccuracies and minor errors that remained after proofreading.
I also want to express special thanks to my wife, Dr Judit Groó, for her endless patience with the noise of my keyboard at dawn day by day and for her trust in the success of my venture.
I hope we have succeeded in creating a lovable guidebook about this lovable city Have a nice trip! Shalom,
