Dear Reader, (or rather as I do hope:) Dear Future Foreigner in Hungary, Once at TPF, we organised an international confererice. The participants came from all over the world, many of them a first time visitor to our country. So we decided to colour our programme with a one-day trip to Tokaj, probably the most well-known wine-producing region of Hungary. Tokaj is very far from Budapest by bus, it may take three hours to get there. Since we were very committed to entertain our guests (a typical Hungárián thing, l'm afraid), we asked our guide to come up with somé interesting information about Hungary during the travel. And she did. But at a certain point she ran out of stories, so after a couple of silent minutes she decided to flash somé signs of expertise about Really Serious and Important Things about Hungary by saying: The most important culture of Hungary is agriculture.' And, having stated this, she perfected the description of Hungary as a phenomenon in the present tense with a contented sigh, and sang us a little silly folk song. With this booklet we definitely aim to contradict and deny this approach. We are convinced that Hungary has much more to offer to students, professors and scholars. And we have a grim determination to show you this via the Guide. Besides, the Guide is meant to be practical, a starter kit, sort of. We do hope you will find this booklet useful and it will assist your first steps to Hungary. We revise and update the Users' Guide each year and we would really appreciate if you could help our work with your comments and ideas at
