Because you think a bigger fellow might be more than you can handle? Because a small dog Is cheaper to feed? Whatever your reason, you will never regret it Uttle dogs are incredibly brave (often foolishly so), make good watchdogs (don't let them yap, though), and are devoted to their owners. Often scornfully dismissed as lap dogs, tiny breeds will gladly walk as far as you wish and ask for more. Transport Is simpler with a small breed: Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers rarely object to riding in a shopping basket. Smaller breeds are often more acceptable guests in hotels; and if not, txjarding kennels charge according to the dog's size. Small dogs are Intelligent and easy to train, and tfiere is less to groomi If the man of the family says he won't be seen out with a toy dog, don't believe it—men often become willing slaves to the most delicate-looking animals. Very small breeds are not a good choice if there are young children in the family, however, as toddlers may think that they really are toys; a good choice for such a family is a dog of Cavalier or King Charles Spaniel size, or a sporty f,4iniature Schnauzer. There is a wide range to choose from, in various colours and sometimes in different types of coat. There are also scaled-down versions of larger breeds, such as the Shetland Sheepdog and the Miniature Poodle. Small dogs usually live longer than their heavier relations. They are not cheaper to buy, though; and they do not have large litters. If you can't bear to leave a dog alone in the house, you can always find room for two small dogs.
