Bővebb ismertető
The hobby of aeromodelling has grown with the development of the airplane itself to the fascinating and popular pastime that it is today. Flying models out of doors is as widespread as ever, but non-flying scale display models have been found to be better suited to the confines of the home, especially when storage becomes a problem. Shop-bought plastic kits, which enable anyone capable of assembling the parts to produce a realistic model, sell in their thousands. The most expert modellers, however, often regard kit models as the raw material for an intricate and beautiful job of conversion which will result in a unique model. And because a model of this sort does not look like a model, it was decided to make this book a history of the airplane, and to illustrate it with the best models available. The publishers would like to express their thanks for the indefatigable research of Toby Wrigiey and the brilliant photography of Philip O. Stearns, the collaborating authors of this book. They in turn wish to thank the many members of the International Plastic Modellers Society who have contributed to this book. These members include: Barrie Armstrong, W. R. Matthews, Norman Whitcomb and Harry Woodman, of London; J. R. Chisman, of Billericay; D. Warmington, of Birmingham; Tom and Michael Moore, of Bromley; K. Spackman and B. Owen, of Derby; Roger Chesneau, of Epping; A. M. L. Kennaugh, of Leamington Spa; J. Ellis, M. F. Harrop and D. Spicer, ofNottingham; Alan Butler, of Orpington; Donald and Finlay Skinner, of Oxford; Gordon Stevens and R. Rowley, of Redhill; Fred Henderson, ofWoking; and Tony Woollett, of Wokingham. Special thanks are due to Paul E. Parker, of New York, for permission to photograph his unique collection of World War 1 models.
