A complete or definitive catalogue of the products of Tiffany Studios that would include all the objects associated with Louis C. Tiffany, the founder of the firm, can never be compiled. The extraordinarily prolific character of this artist and designer, described in detail in his biography. Rebel in Glass, led him to venture into a very wide variety of materials and media and to employ many other artists and designers to carry out his ideas.
Tiffany, the son of the founder of the famed Fifth Avenue Tiffany and Company, began his career as a painter shortly after the Civil War, and the production of objects employing his concepts of beauty continued for five years after his death in 1933. During this span of more than seventy years of productivity, his most important work was rendered in glass, much of which has been accidentally lost or damaged, if not wantonly destroyed.
