INTRODUCTION
THE SUN IS HIGH, and the scene you are painting Is a patchwork of sparkling colors and deep shadows. Your watercolor painting Is looking good, but it's drying too fast. Or you are working in oils and you want to layer one color over another, leaving flecks of the first color showing through. You have seen this in other paintings, but you are not sure how to do It. Or do you wonder which medium to mix into your acrylic paints to get the effect you want?
Even professional artists have frustrations and near-disasters, but they learn to overcome them, and so will you with the help of this book. Unlike other books, this Is not a painting course, but a source of advice for working In watercolors, oils, pastels, and acrylics.
Each type of paint has Its own special qualities, and each also has its problems and pitfalls This book Is therefore divided up into four sections, each devoted to one medium. To help you find the advice you need quickly, each section Is divided up into topics such as materials and equipment, color mixing, painting techniques and special effects, working out of doors, and tips for individual subjects, such as foliage, water, and portraits. As a whole, the book tackles many of the problems that you may come across In your work, and suggests a wealth of Ideas across the different media to inspire you to experiment with different materials and ways or working.
