Author's Preface
The first time I preached through 2 Peter in any fullness was in Lusaka Baptist Church between 13th June and 19th December 1976. I well recall that series of sermons. I had just been appointed pastor there, but was also working as a Lecturer in Communication Skills in a nearby government college. It wasn't a bad combination: teaching people who would become journahsts and employees of the Zambian Information Services and trying to do my own communicating of Peter's message on Sunday mornings. It did not last long. Six months later I went into full-time ministry, briefly at Lusaka Baptist Church and then in Nairobi. But during those months when I had two jobs, I was using such spare time as I had to ponder incessantly on the message of 2 Peter and I was preaching through it on Sunday mornings.
Since that time I have occasionally preached through it again. I recall preaching on the first chapter while visiting Knighton Evangelical Church, Leicester, UK, in 1980, then through the whole book in Johannesburg in the 1980s, then again in Nairobi in 1991. This material, revised in some more recent preaching and compressed into short chapters, is now presented here. At some points (notably in 2 Peter 1:10) my recent expositions are quite different from my efforts in Lusaka years ago. In 1997 various fellowships heard a compressed version of this material - Christian leaders in Mumbai and Goa, both in India; in Johannesburg
