The Praise of WorkI praise only her, the mother of life,of our century are decorated by the victories of theWho bears our future victory,I sing the praise of Work, who beyond griefand ruinsLeads us on the road of liberty.(Cyula Juhász)PREFACEIn our present publication prepared on the occasion of the twentyfifth anniversary of our liberation a summary is given on the history of development of the Hungarian petroleum and gas industry following 1945.I his paper is intended to give evidence on the efforts of the hard years following World War II. and to testify to the development achieved in the Hungarian petroleum and gas industry over this quarter of a century bearing both success and problems. The heroic firmness of the working people in the hydrocarbon industry and the readiness of the friendly countries to help have greatly contributed to our rapid progress over this period.Prior to the liberation of our country, the share of the hydrocarbons (petroleum and natural gas) in the national power balance was as low as 4 p. c. At present it is 44 p. c. and will continue to increase in the future. Never before in its history was the Hungarian petroleum and gas industy so much in the limelight ol interest as nowadays.'I he quantity of goods produced by the Hungarian petroleum and gas industiy, their choice and quality has had shown a considerable development in the past 25 years.This publication will try to present the outstanding results of our industry offering a general picture on this development but bypassing details. Its illustrations intend to prove that this industry being 25 years ago one of minor importance and managed without any perspective, has strengthened its place, and the activity of the working people of the petroleum and gas industry has become nowadays, an important link in our national economy.It is a wonderful age we live in, and we are witnesses to significant historic events.
