Introductory Remarks
Welcome to the 9th IGWT Symposium Budapest. We are happy to bring together such a diverse and knowledgeable group of professionals to share their ideas for developing a more environmentally sound world. The participation of each of you will make this a more rewarding and richer experience.
With this Symposium, IGWT is carrying on the cooperative spirit of previous international conferences and agreements. Our goal is to promote a sound partnership among industry leaders, academics, government officials and consumers. These sectors must work together to implement a long-term strategic approach to addressing environmental challenges.
The material to be presented over the next five days explores various aspects of the primary topic: "Environmentally Sound Products With Clean Technologies." Good environmental management can reduce costs and enhance market opportunities. Implementing clean technologies is one of those opportunities. We hope the evidence presented here will encourage more widespread adoption of clean technologies around the world.
A diverse group of scholars and top managers in business and industry have been gathered to explore the topic from many perspectives. Their papers are presented in the original forms and represent the research and opinions of the authors, not of the editors.
The structure of the Symposium allows participants to attend sessions addressing specific topics of the greatest interest to them. Presentations are related to six general topic areas: 1.) Economy and Environment 2.) Developing Environmental Management Strategies 3.) Pollution Control Alternatives 4.) Aspects of Product Life-Cycle Management; 5.) Challenges in the Field of Commodity Sciences; and, 6.) Development in the Food Industry;
