Lesson One AT THE SEASIDE The Browns went to the seaside in August for their summer holiday. The train was very full. Mrs. Brown and Rose found seats together. So did Mr. Brown and Mary, but George and Jack went to another part of the train to look for seats. Jack quickly came back. " We've found two seats," he said, " but they aren't together." " Never mind," said Mrs. Brown. " You don't want to stand and you aren't far from us." They stayed at the Sea View Hotel and went on the sands when the weather was good. There were a lot of people at the seaside, somé bathing, somé fishing, others walking up and down or sitting reading. George and Jack liked swimming. Mary could swim, but she liked looking for shells or digging in the sand. Rose, of course, couldn't go very far, but she wanted to do everything and go everywhere with her brothers and sister. One day, when the sea was calm, Mr. Brown took them all out in a boát. The boys had their swimmingsuits on and jumped into the water for a swim. Rose, sitting near her mother, suddenly jumped in too. " George, look what she's done!" shouted Mary. Mrs. Brown tried to get hold of Rose, but she, too, nearly feli in. Mr. Brown only laughed. He saw George very near Rose in the water.
