PREFACE TO THE SEVENTH EDITION A large part of the text of the sixth edition has been rewritten and much new material has been added. The seope of the discussions is necessarily limited by the size of the volume. A great effort has been made to bring the text abreast of current medical opinion and interest. The number of illustrations has been increased from 500 to 529 by the addition of 46 new photomierographs and the omission of 17 old ones. A new color plate illustrating the histology of diabetes has been added. Many of the older references to the literature have been replaced by more recent titles. As in the previous editions the authors have tried to furnish the medical student with a textbook that he mav use during his clinical training. It is hoped that the student will look upon clinical medicine as a direct continuation of his pathological studies and not as an abrupt entrance into a new field. « The photographs and photomierographs were made by Mr. Henry Morris.
