Preface to the earlier ABC of women workers' rightsWomen's lack of knowledge about their rights has increasingly been recognized as a constraint hindering their effective use of the rights enshrined in both national laws and international standards. Dissemination of information about these rights is, therefore, a vital instrument for improving women's plight in society.Within the ILO's Interdepartmental Project on Equality for Women in Employment, there is a specific work item on " Information dissemination strategies on women's rights" which has, inter aha, designed information strategies and produced a modular trainer's guide to strengthen action in this area in relation to international labour standards.The information kit consists of:ABC of Women Workers'Rights: Practical Guide-,a brochure ;a pocket guide on provisions of the ILO Conventions and Recommendations concerning women workers;posters; anda videotape.The trainer's guide is made up of:An introductory moduleModule 1 - The Role of the ILO and the UN in the Promotion of WomenWorkers' Rights;Module 2 - International Labour Standards and Women Workers; andModule 3 - Action at National Level to Promote Women Workers' Rights.In addition, a user's guide has been prepared to facilitate the utilization of the package; the package was produced within the project by the ILO's International Training Centre in Turin.It is the project's sincere hope that not only the ILO's different structures, but also governmental bodies, workers' and employers' organizations and other non-governmental and relevant groups would make use of these materials and also adapt them to local situations to enhance their suitability to different contexts.
