The author points out the forces of gro-wth characterizing Hungary in the 1950's, Historical experience proves that the disequilibrium accepted in the interests of more rapid gro-wth can be not dangerous if existing only for a short period of time. Later on it can endanger precisely the objective and resuit in a stagnation in development. Structural transformation oan be viewed as the qualitative side of eoonomio gro-wth. Balanced gro-wth présumés development of the différent branches in harmony with one another. Xt must also be kept in mind that eoonomio gro-wth is not an objective but a means for continuously inoreasing the living standards of the population. The most suitable means of meas-urement, in comparisons, would appear to be the per capita national income index.
