It is only natural, that a much smaller group of herpetologists gathered in Budapest at that time. However, researchers not only from the socialist countries, but from other European and oversea states represented the internationality of our science. During the ten years passed since then a wide development^ was talcing place all around the world, so today we can organize a congress almost five times bigger than the other was. It is a great pleasure for me that I can meet the participants from four continents at the 6th Ordinary General Meeting of the Societas Europaea Herpetológica. We would like to see this congress as a very successful for its participants and hope that all of yours visiting our little country will get familiar and kindly remember it for a long time.
