Preface to the Fourth EditionThis revision of Acting Is Believing maintains the structure of earlier editions. It is organized into three parts"The Actor Alone," "The Actor and the Play," and "The Actor and the Production." Acting Is Believing continues to give primary emphasis to those aspects of actor training that develop internal and interpretative skills.In this revision, every effort has been made to add only concepts and phrases that sustain the spirit of Charles McGaw's work. The changes reflect a careful refinement of the comments obtained from acting teachers, scholars, and actors. The changes also take into account the plays produced in the past five years, as well as recent trends in acting theory and play production.
