Preface
I have not very often preached through the Book of Acts. However, the first series of sermons I ever preached in Africa was on Acts chapter 2, while I was a student at the University of Zambia. I had preached a similar series in England some years before. I arrived in Zambia on 9 March 1969 to start a postgraduate course, and soon found that there was no evangelical fellowship meeting on the campus. So in May 19691 started a Christian Union which was at first called the 'Friday Christian Fellowship' (since it met every Friday evening). I preached every Friday during my first term at the university on Acts chapter 2, and at the end of the term wrote the constitution for an ongoing Christian fellowship. The fellowship continued during 1970 but this time I did not take every meeting, and eventually I left it in the hands of Zambian students. It continued for many years and, after I left Zambia, became affihated to FOCUS (the Fellowship of Christian University Students). I recall the final time I preached there which was during my last week as a resident of Zambia, in November 1977. Since that time the work of God has grown there, and several Christian fellowships are now to be found on the campus. The earliest beginnings of the various Christian fellowships in the university came to birth with Acts chapter 2. I spoke on the outpouring of thg Holy Spirit every Friday for the whole term!
