INTRODUCTION
This course consists of three parts:
Volumes 1 and 2 aim to introduce the reader to Great Britain and the USA through a variety of questions and exercises. The authors' intentions are to make a test book available to students who take up 'Contrastive Country Studies' courses, enabling them to have a better understanding of the texts Britain in Close-Up and America in Close-Up (David McDowall, Longman) and other course materials, and furthermore, to deepen their knowledge by using up-to-date supplementary information.
Volume 3, on one hand, focuses on texts including the relevant topics about Hungary, and on the other hand, it contains miscellaneous supplementary facts, figures, texts and tests illustrating a few examples of the disparities and similarities between the countries in question.
Since Britain in Close-Up and America in Close-Up are course materials, many of the exercises are based upon certain chapters and units in these books. Parts taken from the original texts, marked without special sources, all refer to the above-mentioned books.
