Foreword The annual symposium on vascular surgery that has been developed by Doctors Bergan and Yao has become recognized as an outstanding comprehensive presentation of a wide spectrum of vascular subjects. It is appropriate that the central theme of the current symposium is concerned with aneurysms, because this year marks the 30th anniversary of the first successful aortic aneurysmectomy by Rene DuBost in France. The preparation of this volume is a tribute to the sponsors and to the participants. Each section represents the subject matter of a lecture given at the time of the symposium. The concept of the compilation of these chapters and their inclusion in a book presented to those attending the meeting attests to the ingenuity of the sponsors. A review of the composition of the symposium itself leads the reviewer to be struck by the comprehensive nature of the program.
