INTRODUCTION
The Passive Voice is used:
1. When the subject of the active construction is unknown or va^ggie; ¦ somebody, they, one etc. E.g. Milk is used for making butter and cheese.
The matter will be discussed tomorrow. English is spoken all over the world.
2. When we tj^e grea^ter interest in the objecif than in the subj^t'of -the action.
E.g. This poem was written by Keats. Our dog was run over by a car. ,
3. When the subject of the a.ctive construction is not ¦ mentioned on account of modesty, tact, etc.
E.g. Enough has been said here of a subject which will be treated more fully in a subsequent chapter,
4. Especially in written language, the passive is used as a device to save changing the subject of a sentence.
E.g. Ha spoke at great length; people asked him many questions at the end, which he answered satisfactorily. /Active/
