The human body'GGnsists of three main parts: the h&ad, the trunk and the limbs i . , < . , - —•
The head
The skullj as the bony framework of the head is-called, is 'covered with hair of a-light /dark, fair/ colour, but many . old and middle-aged men "lose their hair; they become bald. In old age the hair often turns grey or even white.
Inside the skull is the brain, the organ pf. thinking, the centre of the nervous system. The face, as the'front part of the head is named, consists of the foreheadj the temples, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the cheeks, and the chin.
The eye is the organ of, sight.* We see with our eyes. The eyeballs are covered by oyelids, and they are further proteced by the eyelashes, rows.of hairs which grow out from the edges of the eyelids. The eyebrows, fringes of hair growing above, still further protect the eyes, which are very delicate organs. We must take care not to strain our eyes by excessive /too much/ reading. From time to time we iflust give them rest. If our eyes are weak we we%r glasses /spectacles/ to strengthen them. When we go to the theatre, we take operaglasses with us. With the help pf a microseope we can see very small things which are invisible to the naked eye.
The nose, the organ of smell, has two nostrils. The upper, bony part Is called the bridge.
The mouth is really the opening between the lips /upper and lower/, through which the breath passes when we speak, and through which we receive our food when we eat and drinic. A normal^man has thirty-two- teeth, twelve incisors /front teeth/"with which he bites, and twenty molars /double teeth, back teeth/ with which he masticates /grinds/ chews, the food' before swallowing. The organs -of taste are the tongue and the palate. The most important organs of speech are the tongue, the uvula, and the vocal chords.
