GÁBOR PRÓSZÉKY THE V-STRUCTURE OF THE PARTICIPLE GROUP 0, Introduation This paper describes the prosodical-syntactical-informational (further: 4>~) structure of the Hungárián partioiple group (PG), that is a "bound word-order" phenomenon in a "free word-order" language. The concepts to be used are similar to the ones in our prosody-centered researches (see Prószéky et al. (1984), Kálmán et al. (to appear) and Kálmán (1985)). First a brief description of the T-structure of Hungárián sentences (Sections 1-2) and then of nominal phrases (Section 3) will be given. In the second part, an overall description of PG will be presented, (Section 4) then we will show the surface and "deep" relations between the PG's verbal constituent and the elements of its case frame CSection 5), the word-order in PGs (Section 6) and finally we will give the -structure of a PG. I. Hungárián Sentence Structure There are two essentially different kinds of Hungárián sentences: sentences have either levél or eradiaating prosody (for details, see Kálmán (1985)). From a communicational viewpoint, Hungárián sentences can be neutral (N}, neutral-continuoue (NC), identifying (I), emphatio (E), emphatio-continuous (EC) and oontrastive (c): (1) A 'zenekar 'elutazott 'Isztambulba. (N) the orchestra left Istanbul~to 'The orchestra left for Istanbul.' (2) (Épp) 'utazott 'Isztambulba a 'zenekar (, amikor'...) (NC) just left Istanbul-to the orchestra when 'The orchestra was just leaving for Istanbul (, when...)'
