This study was published in the No» 1978/1 issue of the "Radio and Television Review", the publication of the Mass Communi-cation Research Centre of the Hungárián Radio and Television.
The aesthetic laws of television have not yet been compiled and systematised. In his book entitled "Television Aesthetics Culturew, István Hermann came to the conclusion that television is not an appropriate médium for the creation of independent works of art, and its assignment involves the propagation of cultural values and the orientation of the viewers1 culture. Although, we may not agree with this view, Hermann1s standpoint is mild and moderate cornpared to those outlooks, which either completely deny any relationship between television and culture, or consider it raerely as a means of manipulation, and on the other hand, there is the other extreme, which is ready to consider anything transmitted by television as being artistic value.
Ali these viewpoints make it difficult for us to take a
secure standpoint on these questions, such as the realism and

party-centric attitűdé of television art. Thus it seera to boil down to the experience, which we gain by sitting in front of television set everyday and we try to analyze the already de-veloped contocts of television and aesthetics, and try to reach basic conclusions from thei^.
