Preface The Trustees of the Public Library of Victoria desiring to mark the first half century of the Commonwealth of Australia felt that the best contribution they could make to this historic occasion was to publish a Guide to Australian Literature since 1900. This work was entrusted to Mr. H. M. Green, B.A., LL.B., and he has produced a very satisfying and inspiring introduction to the writers and writing of these fifty creative years. They have been years of growth and increasing understanding of ourselves, our country and the destiny of our nation.
